10 Real-Life Indian “Wonder Women” To Inspire The Warrior Within You

Look around you ladies, because there is infinite inspiration to be found. But the most powerful feeling in this world is to see your fellow women grow, beat the hell out of patriarchy’s supposed terms and then bloom like there’s no tomorrow. To be honest, not all of us are born with a set of privileges that help us manifest our full potential. But there are some among us who, no matter what, will rise and definitely shine.

With Wonder Woman’s exclusive premiere to our TV screens (thank you HBO!) we thought it’d be perfect to curate a list of 10 such real-life badass ladies who shine in all their glory and are real life Wonder Women themselves.

1. Pooja Dhingra (Chef)

If you’ve tasted macaroons as fluffy as clouds in the sky, they’re probably made by this bomb of a pastry chef. Introducing us Indians to these sugared perfections, Pooja Dhingra’s Le15 Patisserie is proof that if you can dream it, you can do it.

2. Anita Dongre (Fashion Designer)

Someone with absolutely no past business background, Anita Dongre is now a name synonymous with Indian couture and enriched traditionalism. Kudos to the woman who’s successfully a brand in her own self and is absolutely stellar at what she does!

3. Mithali Raj (Cricketer)

The captain of the Indian Women’s cricket team, Mithali Raj is also the first Indian women cricketer to have scored the highest runs in a World Cup match (91 out of 104 deliveries). She also led the Indian Women’s cricket team into the finals of the 2017 Women’s World Cup.

4. Usha Sangwan (Business Woman)

Usha Sangwan is the Managing Director at Life Insurance Corporation of India which also happens to be India’s biggest life insurance company. She is the first woman to reach this position in our country.

5. Sushmita Sen (Actor, Single Mother)

From honoring India with the Miss Universe title in 1994 (and also being the first Indian woman to have received the crown), Sushmita Sen is now a single mother of two beautiful, adopted girls. She is TOTAL slay when it comes scraping away all those stereotypes about “motherhood” and showing the world how it’s done nice and fine.

6. Anushka Lewis (Musician)

A song-writer, singer and one of the very few female harp players in the country, Anushka Lewis leads the foundation course at the True School Of Music, Mumbai. Also, FYI, she carries that 11 kg instrument of hers, everywhere she goes.

7. Chhavi Rajawat (Social Entrepreneur)

Let’s cheer on the first woman Sarpanch in India – that too one with an MBA! Chhavi Rajawat heads the overall administration of the Soda Village in Tonk, Jaipur. Back in 2015, she was responsible for bringing in clean drinking water, solar power and constructing toilets in 800 houses out of the 900.

8. Kanika Tekriwal (Enterpreneur)

The founder of JetSetGo, Kanika Tekriwal has battled cancer like a true warrior. Her relentless pursuit of hope and positivity is like a beacon of light to every woman who’s struggling with a particular aspect of her life, currently. To add to her badges of honour, Tekriwal’s JetSetGo has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Yuvraj Singh’s startup fund, YouWeCan Ventures.

9. Sunita Rajan (Business Woman)

Sunita Rajan is Head of Advertising Sales for the Asia Pacific Region at global TV and media network CNN. With 25 years of experience in media, she oversees an extensive client base across the Asia-Pacific region and leads teams in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Delhi and Mumbai, in addition to a network of representatives across Asia.

10. Anny Divya (Pilot)

The very first and also the world’s youngest female commander to ride the Boeing 777, Anny Divya is a living example who proves that hard work, intelligence and persistence can get you anywhere you want to be.
