7 Powerful Films With Women Protagonists To Watch This Year

The year started with the “Time’s Up” movement that kicked off at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, empowering women in the entertainment business to speak up for themselves. Since then, things have not been the same in Hollywood. This historic movement against sexual harassment has shifted the paradigm for both filmmakers and actors. People are now paying more attention to women-centric roles and movies. This year is surely going to be a year for women! Let us throw light on some of the most awaited women based films that could be game changers in 2018.

Constricted by the hierarchies of the day, Mary defies her traditional family to join a new social movement led by the charismatic Jesus of Nazareth (Joaquin Phoenix). She soon finds a place for herself within the movement and at the heart of a journey that will lead to Jerusalem.

A Wrinkle In Time

Starring Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling, the three leading ladies play the mysterious astral travelers and guide Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace. The science fantasy adventure is directed by Ava DuVernay and based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle.

A Star Is Born

This film will be the first in which Lady Gaga plays the lead. The musical-romantic-drama is directed by Bradley Cooper and is a remake of the 1937 film with the same name. In the film, a country music star Jackson Maine (Cooper) discovers a talented singer named Ally (Gaga) and helps her in making it big.

Mary Poppins Returns
